A Poem on Police Brutality

Source: The Denver Post

If I should die by the hands of a police officer,

Tell him that he killed the wrong woman,

Tell him that he is what’s wrong with this country,

Tell him that his children and family will be stained by the death of a good woman.

What is our Black without the history of colonization?

It is unadulterated

An untainted history

It is free

Uncensored

Ungentrified

It is uncaged

and unstolen

It is invention and creation

Knowledge and wealth

It is Math and Science

Art and Music

It is endless possibilities

And endless paths to success

It is a promise of life
